[Report] WID Waseda Tanabata Event: Cultural Exchange and Wish Sharing
- Useful column
- 2023.08.03
Tanabata, a traditional Japanese event to make a wish upon a star. WID Waseda held this special event in the dormitory from the end of June to around July 6th.
A bamboo tree was set up at the entrance, and residents could freely write their wishes on strips of paper and hang them on the bamboo tree.As a result, WID Waseda 1F entrance has become a place full of hopes and dreams.
Especially for foreign students, many of them are new to Tanabata culture, so RAs (Residential Assistants) provide explanations about the background and meaning of Tanabata while interacting with them.It was a wonderful opportunity for the international students who participated to experience and deepen their understanding of Japanese culture.
Feedback from the RA who carried out the project said, "It was an easy-to-participate event. I learned a lot from the fact that by making the event linked to culture, we were able to secure a large number of participants."Not only international students but also domestic students could participate in this event, and it was a place where all the dormitory students could share their thoughts and wishes through letters.
At WID Waseda, we plan to hold events where international and domestic students can interact and learn and grow together.WID Waseda's international student dormitory is a place where friendship and understanding can be deepened beyond cultural differences.
