WID is an international student dormitory exclusively for Waseda students. What is life like at WID in 2021? We asked three students living in WID in different areas to freely talk about their lives at WID and recent student life.

Q. How was your class and school life last year?

Sayaka-san (WID Waseda):It was all online classes. It felt like I was staring at a computer screen the whole time.Even when I was talking to my friends in the dormitory, I was careful to talk online.

Mr. Taishin (WID Hanakoganei 2):I had a similar experience.I was trying not to go out unless I had something really important to do.However, I didn't feel lonely in the dormitory because I was talking to people.I noticed that the soundproofing performance of the room was excellent due to the increase in room time.If you close the window completely, it will shut out even a considerable amount of noise!

Mr. Taiga (WID Kodaira):I also ended up spending more time in my room. "WID KodairaEach room has a kitchen, so many people started cooking. Some people in the dormitory were studying in the cafeteria, and I was able to talk to friends there, so I don't think I felt as lonely as I would have if I lived in an apartment.

Q. What was good or hard about WID during the corona crisis?

Mr. Taishin:The internet was very fast, which helped a lot.I'm originally an indoor person, so I'm really grateful for the fast line. Also, there is a large park around, so you can easily take a walk, which is good for relieving stress.

Sayaka:The speed of the internet line also helped me a lot. When I went back to my parents' house for a while and took online classes from my parents' house, the internet connection at my parents' house was weak and the video was interrupted many times. Also, even in the dormitory, I was careful about contact with people, but even if I didn't talk to them, there was a great sense of security that there were people around. I thought, "I'm not alone."

Mr. Taiga:It's easy for me to switch on and off. There are various things such as a kitchen in a private room, so if you want to spend time alone, you can stay in the room, and if you want to talk to someone, go to the dining room and someone will be there.

Q. After joining WID, what are the charms of living with WID?

Sayaka:Especially in this current situation, you can definitely make friends in the dormitory. Also, there are still many online classes, so the Wi-Fi environment is perfect.

Mr. Taiga:In a nutshell, it's a place between living at home and living alone. The infrastructure necessary for living is in place, and there is a dormitory manager, so I think my parents can feel at ease.So when I want to be alone, I can concentrate in my room. Also, I got to know everyone in the dormitory better than I had imagined.

Mr. Taishin:After all soundproofing performance and the speed of the internet line are attractive. Also, the surrounding environment was nice.We highly recommend that you visit the area.
